Broadcasting Career

I was the voice of English on-air promos for now TV, Hong Kong's leading pay TV provider, for nearly 5 years, and have written extensively and successfully for their promos, showreels and marketing projects. I became the channel voice for AXN TV in Singapore in November of 1999 and continue to this day to be one of their regular English voices for Asia. I narrated an hour-long documentary for NGC Asia, Florida Aqua Caves, having first revised the script.
While in Singapore, I was the main voice talent for ESPN Star Sports, and regular voice talent for The Disney Channel Asia. I also voiced for MTV, HBO/Cinemax and Discovery Channel, and was the signature voice of the Courts furniture TV ads. Other TV/radio commercial clients included MasterCard, Burger King, Newsweek and SingTel.
In addition, I narrated weekly sports magazine programs for Asia Sport (now World Sport) – The Asian Basketball Show and The Asian Sports Show – as well as Eco-Challenge reality programs for AXN.
I provided live on-site color commentary for the 2000 World Grand Prix Volleyball Championships in Manila for TWI (IMG).
I voiced TV/radio commercials for such clients as FedEx, Compaq, Panasonic, Nissan, Pentax, Zanussi, Heineken, Mitsubishi, Mobil Oil, Hongkong Bank and Hongkong Telecom.
I provided color commentary for the live feed of the 1999 World Grand Prix Volleyball Championships for TWI (IMG).
In 1996 I began producing, scripting and voicing on-air promos for Star Plus, Star Movies and UKTV.
In 1993, I conceived, scripted, produced, directed and co-hosted a pilot for a weekly infotainment show called Hong Kong Surprise.
One of the core start-up staff at Star TV, I progressed to researching, scripting, producing and directing the first original program on the Star Plus channel: This Week on Star Plus – with studio and location segments and a celebrity host. I also scripted, produced and directed weekly introductions to arts programs under the Ovation umbrella.
Leaving Star in late 1992 to form my own company and concentrate more on my own presentation career, I continued to do a great deal of work there. I provided on-camera intros and play-by-play commentary for the 1992 Tour of Japan (picked up by Prime Sports in the USA) and the 1993 & 1994 Japan Baseball Championship Series. I was sole commentator for all six basho of the 1998 Japan sumo wrestling season.
Hired by ATV to be the channel voice and write all English on-air promotions in December of 1988, I quickly went on to replace the departing host of the weekly music video program, Mild 7 Videography, and won a Silver Award at the 1989 International Film & TV Festival of New York (now, the New York Festivals). While doing both jobs, I also scripted and co-hosted the live ATV beauty pageant, Miss Asia Pacific, and the live New Year's Eve show, Countdown to the 90's, and appeared as the male lead in the original music video, Your Special Man.
I worked on-and-off as a weekend and substitute on-air talent at Commercial Radio until 1992, when I became the regular evening drive host in the 6-9pm slot until the English station (AM Alive) went all auto-music at the end of April 1993.
While Senior Copywriter at DDB Needham, a 4A's agency, I worked on accounts as diverse as McDonald's, Hilton & le Meridien Hotels and Max Factor. I appeared as the star of the McDonald's Menu Chant commercial, where I provided a comical slant by singing the menu with my voice cracking at the end, and began a long career as VO talent for TV and radio commercials with such DDB clients as Sega Games, Wellcome Supermarkets and the Hongkong Hilton.
Starting in the mid-80's, I worked part-time (fulltime job was CD at a Tokyo advertising agency) as a voice actor, dubbing Japanese movies into English at Toei Studios. I was a featured regular in the Tora-san films (Otoko wa tsurai-yo) and the Dragon Ball Z anime. Other titles: Dagger of Kamui, Arcadia of My Youth, Cyborg 009, Kinema Tenchi, Princess of the Moon, Tonko, etc. |
